Reciting the same table ten times in a row is the best way to put a child off. Memorization works much better in small doses, in the form of a game. Here is what really works at home, from CE1 to CM2 (ages 7 to 11), without evaluations any pressure.
🃏 The multiplication tables card game
A simple card game is enough: each player turns over a card, the first to announce the product wins it. In the Mistigri version, the one who keeps the losing card makes everyone laugh. It’s the simplest of tables games, ideal for learning multiplications with two players, ten minutes before dinner.
📐 The Pythagorean Table
The large double-entry table shows at a glance all the multiplication tables. It reveals the commutativity : 3 × 4 gives the same result as 4 × 3. One single idea, and there are only half as many results to memorize.
🎨 Magic Coloring and Puzzles
Each box contains a calculation, each result a color: the colorings magiques engage the addition table and multiplications without the child realizing it. The puzzles and paper fortune tellers play the same role in the car or on vacation.
