The gestures your child really learns
“Les petits secouristes” does not teach an 8-year-old child to do what a trained adult knows how to do. It teaches them first aid gestures within their reach, the first gestures that matter, the ones that really count in the minutes beforethe arrival of emergency services.
📞 Alerting, the number 1 gesture
15, 18, 112, 114: who to call, and what to say. Give your address, describe what you see, don’t hang up. For a child, alerting emergency services correctly is already saving lives — the firefighters repeat it at every school intervention.

A wound on the knee, a minor burn, a nosebleed, a trapped finger. These are situations that children really encounter — and for which they often freeze. Each chapter shows the steps in pictures, and especially the famous “don’t do that.”

Helping others is one of the civic gestures that a child can understand very early. This is also what the moral and civic education program says: knowing how to ask for help, and to provide it at one’s level.
⚠️ A book to start — real training to go further
Let's be clear: this book is not a first aid training and does not issue any certificate. The gestures of resuscitation — the cardiac massage, the use of a defibrillator in the event of a cardiac arrest — are not learned from a book, and even less at 8 years old: they require practice, with trainers.
To train for real, contact the French Red Cross or the Civil Protection, or the firefighters of your municipality or any accredited civil safety organization civil security : the PSC1 is obtained in one day from age 10, and the SST concerns the working world. Our book has a different, complementary role: to give a child the desire and vocabulary to learn the gestures, and the reflex to call instead of freezing. Many families actually read it before enrolling their child in an introduction course.
