It's a great classic of Montessori pedagogy: cards in 3 parts — the labeled card (image + word), the silent card (image only) and the word ticket (the word alone). The child enriches their vocabulary, sharpens their observation and, later, begins reading by associating words with images — alone and at their own pace, because the material allows them to self-correct.
Preparation (5 minutes)
- Print the pack in color (thick paper if possible).
- Cut out the cards along the dotted lines — your child can help!
- Laminate them if you can: they will last for years (optional).
The lesson in 3 steps (the Montessori method)
Present 2 or 3 labeled cards at a time, then:
1 · Name“This is the apple.”
Show the card and name it, simply.
2 · Show“Show me the apple!”
The child points to the correct card. Play, shuffle.
3 · Find"What is this?"
The child names it alone. If they hesitate, return to step 2 — without ever putting them at a disadvantage.
When your child starts reading, add the silent cards and word tickets : they associate each ticket with the correct image, then check alone with the labeled card. This is theself-correction.
💡 On the tickets, the article is in color: blue for masculine · red for feminine — a first grammar marker, without realizing it.
